Mike Weix is an artist and performer who has a keen interest in exploring themes such as perception and intention, as well as expectation, chance, and the concept of beauty. Mike first pursued his studies at Montana State University and later continued his education as a graduate student at the University of California, San Diego, where he had the fortunate opportunity to work with renowned figures like Allan Kaprow, alongside both David and Eleanore Antin, and Harold Cohen. Between the years 1990 and 1993, Mike performed and curated performance art as part of Wild Child Productions, a performance art gallery located in downtown San Diego. Additionally, he participated in various performance projects in New York City, where he resided from 1993 to 1996. Due to the innovative nature of his work, Mike's artistic expression is difficult to categorize into any specific genre. He is perhaps best known for his unique paintings and eccentric art projects. Beyond his visual art, Mike also played the bass guitar for the band Universal Triumphant (B.U.T.) from 1989 to 2009. For 22 years, Mike served as the Manager and Technical Director of The Emerson’s Crawford Theater, a role that deeply engaged him in the local art scene. Now retired, he is currently dedicating his time to ceramic sculpture, painting, and various musical projects in Bozeman, Montana, where he lives happily with his dog, Frankie.
